Send in mining memories

CALLING all local heritage enthusiasts.

The Elba Park Heritage Project is bringing together memories and memorabilia from the Lambton Coke Works site and the wider Coalfields – and it needs your help.

Groundwork NE & Cumbria, with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, is delivering a two-year community project to celebrate the coal mining history of Elba Park in Houghton, and the Coalfields.

People are invited to Bournmoor Cricket Club tomorrow between 11am and 2pm for a Local Heritage Show and Tell Day.

Memories, mining memorabilia, favourite family recipes and photographs or maps of the Coalfields area are wanted to help make sure that younger generations learn about their local heritage.

Those who can’t make the day can submit their photos and memories by email. At the end of the project, there will be a website and a resource pack for school.

For more information or to submit photos, contact Nichola Hesslewood on 567 2550 or nichola.hesslewood@groundwork.org.uk.
