CALLING Sunderland’s scruffiest pooches – this is your chance to shine!

The Echo today launches Scrufts, Wearside’s alternative to Crufts, to honour our tattiest terriers, bedraggled bassets and shaggy spaniels.

A pooch pamper day – worth up to £75 – is on offer to the winner of our competition, as well as a bag of tasty doggy treats courtesy of Sainsbury’s.

“Keeping dogs clean and tangle-free is important for their health, and it stops them smelling too!”, said Sunderland dog groomer Linda Stevens.

“Tats and mats can pull at the skin of your dog, leaving him uncomfortable, and it is also important to keep toenails clipped and paw pad hair trimmed.”

Linda, of Creature Comforts in Middle Herrington, was inspired to start her dog grooming business after running a pet shop of the same name in Chester Road.

The City and Guilds-qualified groomer is offering a full groom, including bath, brush, trim and blow dry, to the winner of Scrufts - worth up to £75.

“Whether you have a dirty doodle, a scruffy Saint Bernard or a messy Maltese, this is a chance to get them ‘Spring Cleaned’ for free!” she said.

* To enter Scrufts email Sarah Stoner a photo of your pooch by April 15 at sarah.stoner@jpress.co.uk. If you can’t wait to get your dog spring cleaned, contact Linda on 522 9991 or 0798 622 6813.
