SCHOOLGIRL Megan Atkinson has done her country proud after returning from an international sports event with 12 medals.
The 12-year-old pupil at St Bede’s School, Peterlee, came back from the World Dwarf Games, in Michigan, US, with golds in the 200m and 100m individual medleys, and as part of the ladies soccer team and scooped three silvers in track and field, and in the 200m freestyle relay and 50m butterfly.
Megan’s bronzes were in three track and field events and in the badminton doubles.
Megan, who was born with achondroplasia and lives with dad Kevin, mum Sarah and sisters Emily and Isobel, said: “It was a fantastic experience.”
Kevin said: “Some of the countries, like America and Australia, had really strong athletes, so we are really pleased with how she has done.”
