SHARP ears have won one Wearside man a stack of cash in Sun FM competition.

Since January, people have been trying to guess Sunderland’s Secret Sound in the station’s popular phone-in challenge

Listeners narrowed it down to something in Sunderland’s National Glass Centre and extra clues were given out during a live broadcast from the centre on Thursday – where one man rang in nearly 300 times – as the £3,250 cash prize arrived in a convoy.

Daniel Scott, 25, from Hetton was the lucky winner, after correctly guessing that the noise was the sound of a cable being plugged in at the tourist attraction.

Julian Carter, managing director of Sun FM, said: “We wanted somebody to win this and get the cash instead of a cheque.”

Director of National Glass Centre, James Bustard, said: “We welcomed lots of new people to the centre to guess the sound and had a higher than normal attendance – none of our staff even knew what it was.”
