Samba fans wanted as part of Sunderland Summer Streets festival

SOUTHWICK will be alive with the sound of samba for a special workshop.

Organisers of the first
Summer Streets have put a call out for people with a passion for music to come forward and be part of the festival.

Taster workshops are beginning for the project, with the first taking place on Saturday.

Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project are looking to form a samba band from scratch for a performance at the festival, and their first open workshop is in the Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project building at noon.

Jubilate and the Northern Youth Choir are also running workshops, looking for extra recruits for their performance at Summer Streets and to bolster their choir for the long run too.

Their first get-together is also on Saturday.

The first Summer Streets will take place in Thompson Park, Southwick, on July 19 as a
celebration of home-grown
talent in all genres of music.

Anyone interested in the
festival can visit www.theculturalspring.org.uk or email cultural.spring@sunderland.ac.uk.
