RESIDENTS donned their work clothes and spent a morning giving Burn Park a well-deserved spring clean
Ten volunteers from Thornholme Residents’ Association worked with council staff to tidy the park, off Durham Road.
They spent two hours edging pathways, weeding and laying chippings in and around the shrub beds. “Burn Park in Thornholme is an oasis of calm next to the city centre,” chairman Paul Baker said.
“As residents we’re very proud of it, and always work closely with the council and ward councillors on its maintenance.
“The morning was all about working together and helping show our appreciation for what we have.”
He added: “As we move into the growing season, we and many others will see, enjoy and be rewarded with the work that we’ve put in today. Thanks to everyone that’s helped.”
The work was part of Sunderland City Council’s Love Where You Live scheme. Call 520 5555 for details.
