Radio expert’s top tonic

ONE of the most influential men in radio will be hitting Sunderland’s airwaves.

Radio executive, consultant and presenter John Myers, who became well known for his Morgan in the Morning show, developed the successful Century Radio brand before developing Real Radio, Smooth Radio and Rock Radio.

Tonight he features as special guest on My Tunes, Radio Sunderland for Hospital’s version of Desert Island Discs.

John said: “I had a fantastic time at Radio Sunderland. The team there do a fantastic job for the patients, and they are a very professional organisation.

“They have some very talented presenters, and I always think hospital radio is a great grounding for the future radio stars. Who knows, the next great radio hosts could be via Radio Sunderland.”

Via its website, the Monkwearmouth Hospital-based station, which will mark its 60th anniversary this year, recently launched its online service which has boosted its listenership.

Pauline Phillips, its public relations and funding officer, said: “John thoroughly entertained the volunteers on his visit to the studio. His programme will have patients ‘in stitches’ when it is broadcast to their bedside units.”

l My Tunes will be broadcast today at 9pm. To listen online, visit www.radiosunderland.co.uk
