ATLANTIC cousins have provided the inspiration for a new beer festival.
US craft ales will sit alongside their British counterparts for the event at Sir William de Wessyngton in Victoria Road, Concord, Washington.
Beers from brewers as far away as California, Georgia, Massachusetts and Oregon will feature during the festival’s fortnight-long run.
World’s Biggest Liar, The Abbot’s Confession and Hazelnut Brownie are among the home ales due to be served up, with Sgt Pepper, American Bitter Red and Sunshine Daydream being imported from “across the pond”.
“It’s a bit of a competition really,” said manager of the pub Richard Freeman, who has been busy decking out the Wessyngton in stars and stripes ready for the celebrations.
“The American craft ales are taking off now, so we are putting them up against our own.
“The craft beers from the USA have never before been available in cask form in the UK, which makes them even more special.
“The festival will be the perfect way for real ale enthusiasts to enjoy a range of excellent beers.
“It will also give them an opportunity to support microbrewers throughout the UK, as the pub is featuring many of their beers.”
The festival begins today and runs until Thursday, October 31.
