POLICE are giving residents a chance to help protect their bikes.
A free bike marking session has been set up by officers from the Boldon Neighbourhood Policing Team to put the brakes on thieves.
The event will take place from 9am on Saturday at Asda, on New Road, Boldon Colliery.
The event comes as part of Operation Soundwave, Northumbria Police’s campaign cracking down on opportunist thieves.
Boldon Neighbourhood Sergeant, Jon Commons, said: “Getting your bike marked is a good way of making it less attractive to thieves. Security marking your bike also means it can be reunited with its owner in the event it is lost or stolen.
“I would advise people to always lock their bike, even when it’s in the garage or shed or when leaving it for just a few seconds.”
