Poyet can keep us up, say Sunderland fans

AFTER months of languishing in the bottom three and staring relegation in the face, Sunderland are 90 minutes from ensuring Premier League safety tonight.

The Black Cats ideally need a win, but one point against West Brom at the Stadium of Light will be enough due to the superior goal difference to Norwich.

It is a remarkable turnaround, which was unthinkable just a matter of weeks ago after a 5-1 demolition against Spurs at White Hart Lane.

However, a draw away at Manchester City, a win at Chelsea and the first victory at Manchester United for more than 40 years have put Sunderland on the brink of an eighth year in the top flight.

How do fans think the Black Cats will fare tonight?

Bob Mulvani, a retired painter and decorator, said. “Gus Poyet is the boy! He’ll be the one to keep us up! This season has had its ups and downs, but we went to Wembley and we beat Newcastle twice.”

Anthony Dowell, a chef, said: “We need that point tonight. There’s been too many times this season where we’ve nearly been there.”

Connor Alin, a student said: “They’ve done really well to beat Chelsea and Man United.”

Janet West, a receptionist said: “I hope we stay up so because it will give the whole city a boost.”
