POLICE have launched an investigation after a suspected arson attack on a car.
Fire crews received a report of a blaze at the Shepherd and Shepherdess public house, Beamish, just after 8pm.
The owners of the car, a VW Passat, who were dining in the pub at the time, called 999 when they saw the fire in the car park.
Watch manager John Rodham, of High Handenhold station, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, said it caused extensive damage.
“The interior of the car was severely damaged,” he said.
“It took one appliance about 10 minutes to deal with.
“It is under investigation because it appears to be suspicious.
“Police are going to recover the vehicle to examine it.”
