Poet steps up road safety challenge

PUPILS will learn about road safety in a fun and innovative way, thanks to a poet.

Bernard Young, whose poems include Lady Lollipop, is paying a visit to schools in County Durham to get the road safety message across to young people through poetry.

He will be entertaining pupils with his road safety performances at schools including Cotsford Junior School today and Murton Community Junior School on Monday, February 25.

The poetry workshops will begin with Bernard performing a selection of his poems, accompanying himself on his guitar. His poems have been broadcast on local and national radio and, more recently, BBC One’s The One Show.

Durham County Council’s Road Safety Team will also be on hand at the sessions to offer its expertise.
