WORLD Book Day is an annual celebration of reading with events going on in more that 100 countries across the globe.

Children and teachers across Wearside spent the day reading books and dressing up as their favourite characters. Among those taking part were pupils from St Cuthbert’s School, Argyle House School, New Penshaw Academy, Little Acorns Nursery and Little Learners Nursery. Every child in full-time education in the country was also given a special £1 book token that can be used to pay for a book of their choice.
