Phillip Schofield tweets message to Sunderland as he arrives to say goodbye to Denise Robertson

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has said he is sure Sunderland will give Denise Robertson "a fitting send-off" as he arrived in the city to pay his respects.

The 54-year-old will be among the thousands expected to turn out for the funeral of the popular North East agony aunt, as she is laid to rest today.

Tweeting as he arrived in Wearside late last night, Mr Schofield said: "Hello Sunderland, what a shame to be here under such sad circumstances, but I'm sure we'll give our Denise a fitting send off."

Other famous faces heading to Sunderland for the funeral include Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

Ms Langsford tweeted this morning: "On our way to Sunderland to pay our final respects and say goodbye to this wonderful lady x"

A service to mark the 83-year-old’s life will take place at Sunderland Minster today at 1pm, ahead of an interment at Grangetown Cemetery.
