A PENSIONER has died after a collision with a car on Christmas Eve.

The man, who was in his 60s, died at the scene of the incident.

Police and paramedics were called to the A1086 Sunderland Road, in Horden, at about 8am on Tuesday.

The incident happened near the junction with Thorpe Road, in the area known locally as the Crossroads estate.

The woman driver of the car was shocked but unhurt.

The victim has not been identified and the road was closed for about four hours.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said two ambulances were sent to the scene, one to treat the driver and one to tend to the pedestrian.

The spokeswoman said: “We were called at 8.10am to the A1086 at Horden to a report of a male in his 70s who had been involved in a collision with a car.

“Unfortunately he was dead at the scene.”
