A CRAFTY class which aims to encourage kids to pick up a paintbrush is in line for a new award.
Fiona Simpson, who runs Art Venturers, has been nominated as Entertainer of The Year in our Excellence Awards which are aimed at celebrating arts, culture, leisure and hospitality across Sunderland and East Durham.
Launched in 2011, Fiona’s business offers several children’s art sessions a week in Sunderland and South Tyneside, as well as birthday parties, school holiday sessions and other events.
She was nominated in the awards, which the Echo launched this year, by Cleadon mum Rebecca Klein.
Rebecca said: “Fiona has hosted my son’s parties and they are always fabulous.
“She does such a great job of keeping the children amused and entertained so that all feel included.”
Fiona, 39, from Seaburn said: “The parties have proved really popular because people are always looking for something different to soft play and things like that.
“It often sparks children’s interest in art and their parents sign them up to the classes too.”
She added: “I’m really flattered to be nominated. I think these awards are a great way of recognising local businesses.”
There’s still time for you to make your nominations in the Excellence Awards. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Best Western Roker Hotel, on February 27.
