New plea over fatal collision

ACCIDENT investigators have renewed their appeal for witnesses who saw an accident which led to the death of a pensioner.

The collision happened just after 8am on Christmas Eve on the A1086 Coast Road in Horden, about 300 metres south of its junction with Thorpe Road. Despite efforts by paramedics, 67-year-old Alan Dunn, died at the scene.

The car, a grey Nissan Micra, was driven by a 19-year-old woman from Peterlee, who was shocked but unhurt.

Mr Dunn, who lived nearby, had been on the footpath and had just gone past a crossing when he stepped on to the road and the collision happened.

Pc Kevin Kitson said; “At this stage we have been unable to trace any independent witnesses.

“It might be that some potential witnesses intended to contact the police, but perhaps with Christmas and New Year they have been busy or they might have been away from the area.
