A MODEL Sunderland mum is bidding to become the beautiful face ... of meat!

Sophie Wharton is one of 25 finalists competing to become the face of Jack Link’s meat company.

The 21-year-old, who won the Sunderland Echo Face Of 2012 competition, has won through from some 500 entrants to reach the last round in the Jack’s Girl 2014 contest.

The winner will be the ambassador for the best selling meat snacks company, in Europe, for the next year.

Life-size cardboard cut-outs of the lucky girl will be placed at Jack Link’s supermarket stalls across the continent.

Sophie, mum to Olivia-Lily, three, said she is excited at the prospect at having her face associated with the beef jerky retailer.

“At first I was like ‘oh God, a meat snacks company,’” she said.

“But the previous winners were beauty pageant queens and really glamorous, so I’m not really bothered.

“If it opens doors to me then that’s the main thing.”

Since winning Face Of 2012, Sophie, of Seaham, said she has had modelling success.

She came runner-up in the Face of the North East competition, and modelled clothes for Berghaus and Regatta, and Catalyst Latex, which makes rubber clothes.

“Winning the Sunderland Echo Face Of competition opened lots of doors for me,” she said.

“But this would be the biggest thing I’ve ever done.

“I’m not really bothered about winning any money, I would just love to do the photo shoot, and possibly get the chance to go to Berlin and meet the Jack Link’s team.”

If Sophie wins the competition, which will be decided on April 24 after a text vote closes, she will win a £3,000 holiday, the photo shoot and the chance to be the brand ambassador.

Second place prize is £1,000 and third place £500.

Partner Nathan Milburn, a land driller, is supporting his girlfriend’s cause.

“He is my number one fan,” said Sophie. “He has been voting for me and trying to get people voting.

“He found it funny at first – the bit about the meat company – but he is my main supporter.”

The winners will be announced on April 28.
