Marking 125 years of church

A WEARSIDE church has faith in the future as it marks a milestone year.

East Boldon Methodist Church is celebrating its 125th anniversary by throwing open its doors for a series of events.

A concert and meal will be held on Saturday for all community groups who use the church, with a service of thanksgiving being led by Rev Marie Beard and Rev Paul Cleever-Thorpe, at 3pm on Sunday.

During the course of the year, past ministers will be returning to lead services and a Community Day will be held on May 5 for groups who use the premises to showcase their
talents.

A Flower Festival – called the Passage of Time featuring schools and businesses in Boldon – will be held on July 11.

Irene Gilbert, senior steward at the church, said: “East Boldon Methodist Church is very excited to be celebrating its 125th annivers-
ary.

“The church is not only used for worship, but by many community organisations, including Zumba, table tennis, Kirsty Ann School of Dance, metafit and many more.”

The church was opened on February 28, 1889 by the President of Conference, Rev Joseph
Bush.
