A MAN has appeared in court after a brawl left a victim fighting for his life.

A 48-year-old man was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with serious head injuries after a fight at the Hendon Grange pub at about 7pm on Sunday.

He was later transferred to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Hospital where police said he remained critical but stable.

A 22-year-old man has been bailed in connection with the fight.

Michael Lee McBride, 32, was charged with unlawful wounding and appeared before Sunderland magistrates yesterday where he was given conditional bail. He will be back before the court in the new year.

Police say inquiries into what took place are still ongoing, and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 101, ext 69191.
