A MAN has been found dead on railway tracks.
Trains were delayed after the body was discovered at 7am today in Chester-le-Street.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
A spokesman said: “Shortly before 7.10am this morning, Monday, March 4, we received reports of a body on the line near to Chester-le-Street, in County Durham.
“Officers attended, alongside paramedics from the local ambulance service, and discovered the body of a man on the tracks.
“Clearly we are in the very early stages of the investigation, but are now working to determine the identity of the deceased as well as investigating how he came to be on the tracks.”
