A COMPUTER whizz-kid has come out on top in a national competition.
Luke Farrell, of Shelley Avenue, Boldon Colliery met up with the Duke of York to demonstrate his award-winning website.
The 17-year-old was invited to meet Prince Andrew at Buckingham Palace as recognition for his innovative entry in a programme launched by the Duke in March.
Run by Young Rewired State – a global network of developers and designers aged 18 and under – the five-week competition gave young, self-taught coders in the UK a chance to showcase their talents.
The programmers were asked to design prototype websites, games, videos and apps in an attempt to develop solutions to five different coding challenges.
Luke, who is studying software development at Gateshead College, designed a website that guides students through coding language.
He said: “We were given three weeks to complete our challenges but I finished mine in three days because I just worked on it non-stop until it was done.
“Meeting the Duke of York was really great. I showed him my website and he really was interested.”
