A PUBLIC lecture is going global – due to worldwide demand.
Dr Keith Bartlett is to give a lecture in the Lindsfare Gospels and the much-anticipated Durham City exhibition the famous book will feature in.
Now it has been announced that the event, on Sunday, January, 27, will be filmed live and broadcast online.
Professor Alan Martin, Grey College Senior Common Room chairman, said: “Keith will cover the history of the Lindisfarne Gospels, and he will focus on the plans for this wonderful exhibition and the celebratory events that will be taking place across the North East.
“By streaming the talk live we can invite people not only in the room to ask questions, but also those around the world.
“The streaming is also available to anyone local or in the UK who can’t make it into Grey College on the day.”
The Lindisfarne Gospels and St Cuthbert Gospel, Britain’s oldest surviving bound book, will be on loan from the British Library in partnership with Durham University, Durham Cathedral and Durham County Council.
It was written in honour of St Cuthbert, and is seen as one of the most important works of European art of the first millennium.
Other artefacts and treasures from Durham University, Durham Cathedral and other international collections will be displayed in the exhibition.
A selection of St Cuthbert’s treasures, some of Britain’s most significant medieval manuscripts and a collection of stunning Anglo-Saxon artefacts are among these.
Dr Bartlett’s talk will take place at 2.15pm.
Due to demand, a second session has been arranged flor 4pm.
A live stream to the internet has beens et up for both talks.
Tickets for the talks, at Holgate House on the South Road Campus, are free, while streaming costs £4.
