Lifeguard’s help injured teenager on Sunderland beach

TWO teenagers were helped by the RNLI after one of them was injured at the seafront.

The charity’s lifeguards, who were off-duty, were coming out of the sea following a swim at 8.15pm and noticed a group of people huddled around a distressed girl near the Promenade steps of Seaburn beach on Saturday. Lifeguard Cosmin Petcu realised the girl had cut her foot on a bottle and calmed her down while colleagues Beth Newport and Annabelle Joyce got their first-aid kit and treated her.

However, one of her friends collapsed. The lifeguards kept her stable while paramedics arrived. Both girls were taken to hospital as a precaution.
