JUNIOR Black Cat Joseph Williams will lead out his red-and-white heroes at the Stadium of Light tomorrow after winning our latest competition.

The nine-year-old, from Silksworth, entered our contest to be mascot for Sunderland’s game against Hull City.

The competition asked participants to pen a thank you letter to their favourite player, with season-ticketholder Joseph writing down his admiration for Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone.

Joseph’s dad Darren, 41, said: “It’s funny because he was writing out the letter before the Manchester United Capital One Cup game when it went to penalties and Mannone was the hero.

“People probably think he wrote it after that game but he did it before because he likes him so much.”

Joseph is now counting down the hours until he gets to meet his idols.

“Joseph is enthralled because it’s one of those experiences you look forward to, and I have to say even I am,” added Darren, married to Joseph’s mum Lyndsey, also 41.

“It’s always a topsy-turvy world being a Sunderland fan but with us doing a lot better recently and getting to a cup final it’s been great.”
