VETERAN Jack Watson received a hero’s welcome after he took part in his first tandem parachute jump to raise cash for a Wearside charity.

The 91-year-old, from High Barnes, pictured below with instructor Mark Willcox, fulfilled a lifetime ambition yesterday while raising money for Action on Dementia Sunderland.

He decided he would take the leap from 15,000ft to honour his wife Norma, who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, and those who work for the charity.
