Inquest to open on road-death victim

AN inquest is due to open today into the death of a man who died when he was hit by a car.

Andrew Michael Cook, 34, of Garden Avenue, Framwellgate, Durham, is said to have been lying down in South Road when he was struck shortly before 10.30pm on Thursday.

The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa involved in the collision, a 31-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 36-year-old man, were unhurt.

An inquest into Mr Cook’s death was due to be opened at the coroner’s office in Crook this morning.

In a statement released through Durham Constabulary, his family said: “Andrew was a young man who loved life and his family and loved going to college and spending time with his dog.

“Andrew was an extremely kind-hearted person who was always willing to help others. He will be sadly missed.”
