THE inquest of a student whose body was found in the River Wear more than a month after he went missing will be opened this week.

Police have confirmed the man discovered between Prebends Bridge and Framwellgate Bridge in Durham is Sope Peters, an economics student who was studying at Durham University.

The 20-year-old, who was living in Highgate in the city, was originally from America, with his mother Tolu travelling to the North East during the appeal to find her son as she added her voice to the calls for help.

An inquest into his death, recorded as Sunday, December 8, will be opened on Thursday at the coroner’s office at Crook Civic Centre and is expected to be adjourned for further reports.
