Hospice to hold service

ST BENEDICT’S Hospice is set to hold its final Light Up A Life service before it moves to its new multimillion-pound home.

The centre will replace its base at Monkwearmouth Hospital, Sunderland, in a move which will boost specialist care for Wearsiders suffering from terminal illnesses.

The new hospice, in Ryhope, will include 14 inpatient beds, provision for 16 patients in its day-care facility, a multi-faith room and plans to provide better facilities for relatives staying overnight. It is set to open in the coming months.

The annual Light Up A Life service at the Newcastle Road site encourages people to remember a lost loved one by making a donation in their memory. It will take place on Sunday, December 9, at 4pm.

Fundraiser Sylvia Stoneham said: “As it’s the last time it will be held here, it’s going to be very poignant and emotional time for people, especially those who have lost loved ones on this site.”

For more information about the event, visit www.stbenedicts.co.uk, email fundraising@stbenedicts.co.uk or call 569 9194.
