PEOPLE on Wearside can learn what it was like to be a Roman soldier at a history event this month.
The 24th annual Festival of Archaeology will take place from Saturday until Sunday, July 27, with more than 1,000 events across the UK.
Co-ordinated by the Council for British Archaeology (CBA), and run by more than 400 museums and heritage organisations, the festival gives the public the chance to have a go at digging and recording finds, watch experts at work, and find out about the latest discoveries in their area.
Among the North East events will be a talk at Durham University about the destruction of the cultural heritage of Syria and a chance to meet a Roman soldier at Sunderland Museum.
