Help to get back into work
A PILOT programme for tenants who want to improve their employability is proving to be a success.
The scheme is a partnership between social housing landlord East Durham Homes (EDH), East Durham Partnership (EDP) and Durham County Credit Union.
Participants complete a two-week course and can then access a £500 low cost loan from the credit union, and a £200 voucher for an essential furniture pack from EDP’s household furniture and white goods factory at Seaview, Horden.
The course consists of workshops and training to improve interview techniques and job-hunting skills.
Participants gain work experience and can access support with literacy and numeracy, to gain NVQ qualifications.
“Unemployment is a big problem in our area,” said EDH chief executive Paul Mains.
“So it’s important for us to work together with other agencies to break down some of the barriers of getting into work.”
