Gold medal-winning gymnast inspires pupils
Thorney Close Primary School had a special visitor in the shape of Commonwealth Games gold medal inning gymnast Craig Heaps. Craig gave pupils an inspirational talk, showed off his medals and performed the odd handstand or two!
CHILDREN were jumping for joy when a top British gymnast paid them a visit.
Gold medalist Craig Heaps tumbled into Thorney Close Primary School to tell the youngsters about his career.
Craig, a Commonwealth Games gold medal winner who has represented Britain more than 100 times, went along to the Torquay Road school as part of the 21st Century Legacy’s Be The Best You Can Be project.
Ruth Miller, the school’s business manager, said: “We want to inspire and engage our pupils through the Be The Best You Can Be programme to discover their unique potential and empower them to pursue and fulfil their dreams in whatever they do.”
The 21st Century Legacy is a charity founded by Dr David Hemery CBE to go beyond last year’s games to help fulfil a bid promise the London 2012 Olympics would be an inspiration.
The charity hopes young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as responsible citizens and members of their communities.
