BIGGEST Loser champion Kevin McLernon feels like the luckiest man in the world after marrying his long-term sweetheart Joanne Chard.
The happy Wearside couple tied the knot at an intimate ceremony in York last week before an evening bash at The Sage Gateshead at the weekend.
Kevin, 39, who earlier this year was crowned ITV’s Biggest Loser 2012, and 35-year-old Joanne, were joined by family and friends, including Kevin’s partner on the show, niece Amy McLernon, four of their fellow contestants and some of the production crew who travelled up from London.
The reality TV star was the heaviest ever contestant when he entered the Biggest Loser house weighing 32st 2lb, but dropped to 19st 4lb to take the title and has continued to lose another two-and-a-half stone.
The devoted Seaburn pair have been together for 10 years, but Kevin’s weight and potential health issues were like a cloud over their heads.
But, shedding the stones has transformed life for the happy couple.
Kevin said: “We had the most fantastic wedding day. We went with just our parents to York got married and went for afternoon champagne tea. It was perfect and everything we wanted.
“When I saw Joanne in her wedding dress, I was just blown away. She looked absolutely beautiful.
“The evening party was really good as well and it was great that so many people could be there to celebrate with us.
“I am so lucky, getting married to Joanne was the highlight of my weight-loss journey and we have loads of adventures planned.”
Joanne said: “I was never one of those people who dreamt about being a bride, but I absolutely loved it. It just went by in a whirlwind. It was over too soon.”
Now, the new Mr and Mrs McLernon are looking forward to planning a honeymoon.
But, for Kevin, who is well on the way to qualifying as a personal trainer in a bid to help other people shed weight and turn their lives around, it will soon be back to business.
He said: “After all that eating and drinking at the wedding, I need to get back in the gym.”
