DOZENS of people got down and dirty for charity.

More than 30 people muddied themselves as they were whipped into shape raising funds for cervical cancer.

Sunderland businesses HIT Bootcamp and L&C Promotions joined together to host the charity bootcamp, which raised about £150 for cervical cancer charities.

Lucy Willis, 23, part-owner of L&C Promotions, said: “The day went really well, despite the weather.

“A few people couldn’t come but still donated and we raised quite a bit of money for charity.

“It was just like a normal bootcamp, but we ended up having mud fights and most of us were covered in it.”

The event took place on North Moor playing field and people paid £4 each to take part.

The money was split between two charities – Sunderland Cherry Berry Cervical Cancer Charity and the Mercedes Curnow Foundation, based in Cornwall.

HIT Bootcamp founder Josh Cliff, 23, of Ashbrooke, said: “The day went really, really well considering how the weather has been.

“Everyone there got stuck in and we raised money for charity which was the most important thing.

“I would like to host another charity bootcamp now, but think we will wait until the summer when the weather is a bit better so we can get as many people involved as possible.”

The fitness fanatics were put through their paces with a series of exercises including running and press-ups during the workout by former Thornhill School pupil Josh, who is also a personal trainer.

The event was held as part of Lucy, and business partner Charlotte Knight’s work with the Sunderland Cervical Cancer Campaign to raise awareness of the disease and how it can affect younger women as well as older.

Lucy and Charlotte are also involved with the Sunderland Calendar Girls who have sold two calendars to raise money and awareness for cervical cancer.

Former Farringdon Community Sports College pupil Lucy, said: “We are keen to hold another bootcamp in the summer with Josh to raise even more money.”
