Get on the road to a car career

A NEW partnership will help young people gear up for a career in the car industry.

Sunderland College has joined forces with one of the city’s biggest training businesses, NAC Group.

NAC Group will deliver the vocational programme, Youth Evolution Scheme (YES) designed to help young people, aged 16 to 18, gain nationally accredited qualifications to secure work in engineering and manufacturing.

Now, the college will also deliver the 19-week programme, which comprises 11 weeks of interactive learning using a simulated environment and eight weeks shadowing staff on a manufacturing production line.

Julie Raine, assistant principal at Sunderland College, said: “It is an excellent opportunity for young people across the city and the wider region, to access high quality education with real job opportunities at the end of the process.

“The apprenticeship route is becoming more and more popular with young people.”

An event will be held at the college on Friday for anyone interested in the courses on offer.
