TWO firefighters helped raise £20,000 for good causes after completing an epic challenge.

Tom Robson and Paul Harkness, who work at Peterlee Fire Station, took part in the Strongarm Challenge – a four-day endurance test in the Lake District involving swims, cycle rides and runs.

They raised about £2,000 in memory of Boldon firefighter Peter Metcalfe, who died of cancer. With donations from around 20 other firefighters, the total stands at more than £20,000.

Tom, 39, from Easington, said: “People had different abilities and strengths, but everyone pulled together and helped each other when they needed support.”

The money will be divided between The Fire Fighters Charity, Make A Wish Foundation and the Sir Ranulph Fiennes Centre.
