ONE of Britain’s best known nuclear weapons protestors is heading to Wearside to give a powerful talk.
Bruce Kent, former chairman of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) will visit Sunderland Minster tomorrow as part of his No Faith in Trident Tour.
Called Nuclear weapons spending in an age of austerity, the talk is the first that Bruce will have given in Sunderland.
“I’m simply saying that the ordinary people of Britain won’t want to spend £100billion on nuclear weapons when we are getting cuts to services and schools,” he said.
“I’m urging people to get in touch with the Government to say this is ridiculous.” The visit to Sunderland, which will take place in the fourth week of the national tour, has been organised by Reverend Chris Howson, a priest at Sunderland Minster. Bruce said he is pleased with the response he has had from people about the tour so far.
“The only way forward really is to ban nuclear weapons and to take an active part in doing that.”
The free event will begin at 7.30pm tomorrow.
