FOOTBALL DREAM: Gavin Hoggarth has made it through to the semi-final stages of Samsungs Win a Pro Contract competition.

A MIDFIELD maestro could be just a few matches away from securing a contract with a professional football club.

Gavin Hoggarth, of Murton, has made it to the semi-final stages of Samsung’s Win a Pro Contract competition.

The 20-year-old is one of almost 90 players still in the contest who are vying for the chance to get a deal with Football League clubs Leyton Orient, Swindon Town or Wycombe Wanderers.

A record number of 5,700 players entered the process, which has now been whittled down following regional trials at different locations around the country.

Gavin said: “I’m so happy to be in the semi-finals of the Samsung Win A Pro Contract competition, and I’m really looking forward to it.

“Being one of the 88 through fills me with confidence and belief that I can do it.”

Gavin impressed scouts at his regional trial at Leeds Goals Soccer Centre back in October, which meant he got put through to the next
round.

He will now take part in an 11-a-side game alongside fellow hopefuls at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium, in London, tomorrow.

Speaking about his preparation for the next stage of the competition, Gavin added: “Since the regional trials, I’ve mainly been focusing on my fitness as well as practising a few ball skills to stay sharp and impress the scouts.

“Being just two matches away from potentially winning a professional contract makes me feel very proud.

“All my friends and family are excited for me and I’m really hopeful for the future.”
