FOOTBALLERS scored for charity at a fund-raising match.
Sunderland Westend took on Whitley Bay at Ford Quarry to raise funds for the Peter David Lane Trust, which collects cash for a host of charities.
More than £700 was raised at the event for Cancer Research.
Julie Reay, who set up the fund after the death of her son Peter, 13, in a rope swing accident, said: “I really was overwhelmed by the fantastic support for this event. The crowds gathered to watch these two fabulous teams while raising money for a wonderful cause.
“We raised £703, which just goes to show the generosity of people of the North. I would like to send a great big thank you to everybody involved in this event who helped make it the huge success it was.”
The teams drew 2-2.
