Five in hospital after three-vehicle smash + VIDEO

THREE vehicles were involved in a smash on a busy road which saw five people taken to hospital.

The crash happened in City Way, Doxford Park, near the A19, when a bus, a 4x4 car and a security van collided just after 8.30am today (MON).

The Great North Air Ambulance helicopter arrived at the scene but no-one needed to be taken away by paramedics.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “Police received a call at 8.34am of a report of a crash on City Way in Sunderland.

“All emergency services attended the scene, where a number of passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries.

“Five people were taken to hospital for treatment and the road has been closed.”
