First-time buyers rise

FIRST-time buyers are snapping up homes in the North East, according to a new report.

Taylor Wimpey North East reported that 39 per cent of its annual property sales in 2012 came from first-time buyers.

Joan Peart, sales and marketing director of Taylor Wimpey North East, said: “Contrary to the recent reports of first-time buyers struggling to get on to the housing ladder, we have had a significant percentage of our sales coming from those who are buying their first property.” The firm said first-time buyers have been helped by its five per cent deposit schemes, which it plans to continue throughout this year.

“Through the development of purchasing schemes with the Government, such as the FirstBuy initiative, as well as our own financial support packages, we are in a position to provide so many first-time buyers with the leg-up they need, to reach the first rung on the housing ladder,” added Ms Peart.
