FIREFIGHTERS turned crimebusters as they were drafted in by police to help with the arrest of a suspected burglar early this morning.
A crew from Fulwell fire station was called to Railway Terrace in East Boldon around 2am.
“I think he was trying to break into somewhere and the police had caught him in the act,” said watch manager Steve Bewick.
“It was in a locked rear yard. They already had him handcuffed but they needed a hand to get him out.
“We used our short extension ladder to get over the wall and raised the roller shutter to let them out.”
