FORMER Sunderland City Council chief executive Ged Fitzgerald will speak to his current employers about his time in charge of Rotherham council.
Mr Fitzgerald now heads up Liverpool city council, but between 2003 and 2008 worked at Sunderland.
He was chief executive of Rotherham Council between 2001 and 2003, when some of the sexual abuse of children investigated in the Jay report took place.
Mr Fitzgerald has released a statement saying: “The publication of the report into child sex exploitation, and the media coverage which has followed, has raised questions about my tenure as chief executive of Rotherham Council.
“Given the comments that have been made, and the associated media coverage, I will be discussing this matter in some detail with my current employers at Liverpool City Council in the coming days. I endorse the calls being made for a public inquiry and will continue to assist voluntarily and openly any investigation, review or public inquiry into this extremely serious matter.”
Mr Fitzgerald added that he could not comment further until speaking to the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson.
