Equine lecturer turns landlady by taking over famous real ale pub

A FORMER college lecturer has taken a new career path after taking over the reins of a pub.

Lauren Prout was previously an equine lecturer at East Durham College.

Now she has taken up a stable position in charge of the Dolly Peel watering hole in South Shields.

Lauren, 27, was persuaded to make the career change by her partner Peter Frail, who runs the Sand Dancer pub in South Shields.

She said: “It’s a bit of a change from being a horse lecturer, but it is a new challenge and although I don’t teach any more, I still love to ride.

“Real ale is still at the heart of what we offer. I am aware of the tradition and I still think we have the best beer in town.”
