CYCLISTS in Durham City now have a new £60,000 route.

The lane leading from Quarryheads Lane to Prebends Bridge has been resurfaced.

It will become part of National Cycling Network route 14 which runs from Darlington to South Shields, via Hartlepool, Durham and Consett.

Other improvements in Durham City include a new crossing at Aykley Heads, and resurfacing of a path near Frankland Lane.

Coun Neil Foster, Durham County Council’s portfolio holder for economic regeneration said: “The improvements benefit both cyclists and walkers. They are a clear demonstration of our commitment to creating opportunities for active travel.”
