CREATIVE pupils are putting their own fashion stamp on an upcoming ball.
Students from The Academy at Shotton Hall in Peterlee threw out the rule book as they held their own unique prom fair and fashion show.
Organised with the support of staff, it challenged people to think differently about their prom plans.
The Reinvent event showcased £2 dresses from a charity shop with the aim of showing how to look and feel great at prom, regardless of how much is spent.
Students also pushed the boundaries of prom fashion by “up-cycling” outfits and giving traditional garments a contemporary twist.
By teaming baseball boots, caps and unusual accessories with glamorous dresses they challenged fellow students to think more creatively and embrace their own personal style.
Lesley Powell, principal at the school said: “The fair was a real success and sent a positive message out to the local community.
“We hope we have taken the pressure of the price of prom and made it feel like a more accessible event some students.
“We want everyone to feel like they can take part, no matter what their budget or style, and we hope this fair will be the start of a much more inclusive approach to prom.”
The sessions, which were open to students from outside the school and parents, were supported by a host of businesses.
