COLOURFUL characters will gather to crack open an Easter fund-raising event.

Easter Pride will see a host of entertainment perform in a bid to raise money which will be ploughed into Sunderland’s annual celebration of its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Sunderland Pride – which this year takes place on September 1 – sees thousands descend on the city for a parade and party which celebrates diversity on Wearside.

But as the event receives no external funding, the committee which stages the spectacular has to raise funds themselves.

Easter Pride will take place on March 30 and 31, at the New Central pub, in Bridge Street.

Entertainment will include dozens of drag queens, a male and female stripper, and DJs including DJ Ryan Houston, DJ Ayrodynamic, DJ Skippy, DJ Teapot, DJ Pete Petite, and DJ Muttley Ruttley.

A Cheryl Cole tribute act will also be among the performers at the free event.

Ryan Houston, communications director at Sunderland Pride, said: “We’ve got a really full line-up over the two days, starting at 7pm on the Saturday and noon on the Sunday.

“We’ve got everything from singers to cabaret.

“Sunderland Pride is now in its third year and it gets more and more interest each year.”
