DANCING king and queen John and Elizabeth Anderson today celebrate 60 years of married bliss.

The couple, both 81, met at the now-demolished West Park Central School in Park Lane when they were just 15.

They tied the knot at Bishopwearmouth Church, six decades ago today.

Elizabeth, of Crosslea Avenue in Sunderland, said: “I used to watch him play football a lot, and then when we met, he used to halve his apple for me during our break times.”

After completing his National Service, Mr Anderson went on to become a lecturer in woodwork at South Tyneside College for 30 years.

The couple have two children, Janice and Mark, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr and Mrs Anderson are today dancing at the Seaburn Centre, which is normally part of their weekly routine, before a more fun event at the weekend.

“We’re having a family do at the Ramside Hotel in Durham on Saturday,” added Mrs Anderson.
