Delays for travellers on Metro

METRO passengers experienced severe delays yesterday due to infrastructure problems.

Delays were reported from about 8am and went on until noon.

Passengers were informed via the Metro’s Twitter account problems were system wide.

Initially said to be caused by a minor technical fault, Tyne and Wear Metro then reported a major technical fault and eventually said that delays were due to infrastructure issues.

A spokesperson for Metro said they were trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible but that delays throughout the whole system would continue until the backlog of trains was cleared.

About 11.30am the operator reported the service had resumed between South Gosforth and Haymarket, but delays were still expected throughout the whole system.

Passengers were advised to email Tyne and Wear Metro at contactus@twmetro.co.uk to claim a refund for any tickets that could not be used or to report any complaints.
