ONE of the hitmakers behind a pop song that has been adopted by Sunderland fans this season will make an appearance on Wearside.
Fans at the Stadium of Light have claimed the D:Ream song Things Can Only Get Better as their own, and it has become a terrace anthem.
Supporters have sung the chart-topping hit during games throughout the season and in the build-up to the club’s Capital One Cup Final appearance, the 1990s song re-entered the music charts after a sustained campaign by the Black Cats faithful.
Original D:Ream member Al Mackenzie will be a special guest of the club at Sunderland’s game against West Brom on Wednesday night, where he will be introduced to the Stadium of Light crowd at half-time and draw the Foundation of Light’s ‘Grand In Your Hand’ lottery.
Speaking ahead of his visit, Al said: “I’m really looking forward to visiting the Stadium of Light for the first time.
“It will be a bit special hearing so many singing our song.
“Things appear to have got a lot better recently, long may they continue.”
Tickets are still on sale for the game, priced £25 for adults, £19 for over 65s and £10 for under 16s. Season card holders can buy up to two extra tickets at a reduced price of just £10 each, in a special friends and family ticket offer. The Stadium of Light ticket office will be open for sales on Bank Holiday Monday from 10am until 1pm.
